The H*I*V 1 & 2 Ab with P24 Ag test is a fourth-generation H*I*V test designed to detect both antibodies (Ab) and antigens (Ag) associated with H*I*V infection. Antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system in response to the virus, while the P24 antigen is a protein found in the H*I*V virus itself. This test can identify H*I*V infection almost 2-4 weeks after exposure which is much earlier than standard H*I*V tests.
The test is used to screen for H*I*V-1 and H*I*V-2, the two main types of H*I*V. It is recommended for individuals at risk of H*I*V exposure, such as those with multiple sexual partners, intravenous drug users or healthcare workers exposed to blood. Early detection of H*I*V is crucial for initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART) and preventing the progression to A*I*DS.
A small quantity of blood is required for this test.
Results are typically available in a day.
The test is ordered if a patient shows early signs of H*I*V infection. It is also ordered for people who are at-risk of infection due to work or lifestyle.

H*I*V 1 & 2 Ab and P24 Ag is a qualitative test and only detects the presence of antibody or antigen. Positive result means there is presence of H*I*V infection in the sample.
**The above mentioned range is for information purpose only. Normal levels are dependent on how the test is conducted. Result interpretation should be done by a qualified doctor or healthcare professional.**
Abnormal results mean H*I*V infection is present. Your doctor may recommend:
If the test results are negative but there is a high risk of recent exposure, the doctor may recommend repeat testing after the window period (usually 2–4 weeks).
